Assessment at PSU

Assessment will be a sustainable part of the Portland State University culture that continually informs academic decision-making and program design and improves student learning. In seeking to achieve campus wide assessment, all academic programs will conduct student learning assessment with the intent of designing assessment processes that continually inform academic programs. Faculty, staff and students will be stakeholders in the continuing Assessment Initiative.

Assessment Activities

Through the Assessment Initiative activities and products, PSU will demonstrate a firm commitment to planning, program review and management.

The following activities are key components of the assessment process:

  1. Faculty articulate student learning outcomes and then design methods in which the work that students do for their courses can be used as indicators of student performance on the agreed upon student learning outcome objectives;
  2. The assessment information is made public on the electronic institutional portfolio;
  3. The articulation, measurement, and use of the assessment data are central to meeting accreditation standards for student learning outcomes as well as curricular enhancements for academic programs;
  4. Assessment activities are integral components of planning, program review, PASS, The President's Diversity Initiative, The President's Internationalization Initiative, The Student Advising Initiative and the Characteristics of the Baccalaureate Graduate.
