Institutional Priorities

The seven institutional priorities listed here were developed by a subcommittee of the Council of Academic Deans, complemented by other key administrators in Academic Affairs, and the University Planning Committee. Action steps for 2004-05 are listed where appropriate.

Priorities:

Attract and retain a faculty of distinction.

*Increase proportion of tenure track faculty commensurate with enrollment growth

Attract and retain a student body that is excellent and diverse.

*Increase racial and ethnic diversity of student population

*Develop and implement plan to increase retention and graduation rates above the mean of peer institutions

Provide national leadership in student learning and talent development.

*Create internationalization asset map and develop plan for coordinating internationalization initiative across campus

*Develop additional 2+2 and 3+2 programs in cooperation with community colleges and other higher education institutions in the region

Increase financial security and resources through diversified and enhanced revenue streams.

*Implement PSU's capital campaign, Building Our Future

Develop our research and creative capacity consistent with PSU's central role in knowledge creation and community engagement.

*Increase externally funded research and sponsored projects to $50 million by 2007.

Provide leadership to create a nexus of educational institutions that enhance the community and contribute to economic development and sustainability.

*Develop a database to document community partnerships, internationalization, and Extended Studies outreach.

Develop an academic and administrative support structure that furthers all of these priorities.

*Develop key internal indicators to support decision making.
