Full-time Instructional Faculty Fall 2004

Gender

Fifty-eight percent of the full-time instructional faculty are male, 42% are female. In comparison, ten years ago 66% of full-time instructional faculty were male.

Ethnicity

Thirteen percent of full-time instructional faculty members self-identified as belonging to an ethnic minority in fall 2004. The largest ethnic minority group is Asian/Pacific Islander (7%). The next largest ethnic minority group consists of Black, Non-hispanic faculty (3%). More than three-fourths (77%) self-identified as white, non-Hispanic. In comparison, 8% of the full-time instrucitnal faculty self-identified as belonging to an ethnic minority group during 1995.

Tenure

One-third (33%) are fixed term faculty, 47% have indefinite tenure and 20% hold tenure-track positions. During fall term 1995, the percentage of full-time instructional faculty who held tenured positions was 66% and 18% held tenure-track positions.

Length of Service

As of Fall 2004, the average length of service for full-time female faculty was 10 years. For male faculty the average length of service was 12 years. The figure below displays the distribution in five-year increments. The largest proportion of faculty (35%) have 1 to 5 years of service. 14% of faculty have over 20 years of service.
