Institutional Effectiveness

Portland State University is committed to the ongoing review of our mission, goals, and objectives and to the measurement, evaluation, and reporting of the outcomes of our activities. Our definition of institutional effectiveness also requires that all of our programs and activities reflect the University's mission, vision, and values.

Continuous Improvement

One of PSU's stated values is "to improve continuously as a university through reflection and open assessment of our activities." This value is manifested in a culture of evidence that drives decision-making and priority setting. The public sharing of information through our publications and Web sites promotes discussion and re-examination of our activities, leading to informed decision making. This approach allows us to view institutional change as scholarly work, grounded in reflection and evidence.

Accountability

As a public university, institutional effectiveness is critical because we are accountable to our multiple constituencies for the public resources entrusted to us. We uphold our responsibility to be good stewards through prudent decision- making that emerges from the review of relevant institutional data and established performance indicators.
