Unit initiative Description:
CEE will partner with local, national, and global organizations. We will do this primarily through research and educational initiatives. Research initiatives in CEE often involve cooperation between government agencies and CEE faculty. These agencies are often strong supporters of our research initiatives. Our educational initiatives include cooperative education (CECOP), senior capstone projects focused both locally and internationally, student club projects (EWB, ASCE, STEP/ITS), short courses and seminars that attract local and international professionals. Additionally, our service in local and national committee assignments and outreach to K-12 through MESA or science/engineering fairs augment our partnerships. We also want to market our current and future successes in developing these partnerships.
Desired outcomes:
We desire to see continued growth in research in sustainability and educational projects focused on sustainable Civil and Environmental Engineering. These projects will be focused on the local and global community. We desire that the Department receive recognition of our leadership in many local and global issues through increased awareness.
How initiative supports overall unit or school/college plans:
This initiative supports the vision for the CEE Department to be a leader in research and education. This leadership role can be achieved through local and global partnerships.
Measure of progress and success for this unit initiative:
Progress can be measured in terms of increases in overall research funding (including in sustainability), successful senior capstone projects focused on the community (local and international), and increased marketing of our successes.
